Group Work

In this project, students will work in groups to:

• find the cost to ship people and freight from Brussels to Kinshasa Congo;
• use a coordinate grid and knowledge of similar triangles to determine distances from the airport to various storage facilities;
• solve problems involving the transport of people and supplies to clinics in five remote villages; and
• compute past, present and future populations served by various clinics.
   

Materials Needed

Each student will need a copy of the Transporting People and Medicine worksheet.
 

Final Report

Individually, students will:

• compare costs of regular medicines and heat-resistant medicines;
• compare the value of donations from various charitable groups;
• compute future population; and
• compute and compare the costs to ship corn and barley to Africa.
   

Materials Needed

Students will answer all final report questions online. Students should have access to their Transporting People and Medicine worksheets as they complete the final report.
